Port Alberni Race Cancelled

Unfortunately the Island Series Port Alberni practice day and race this weekend, Sept 17-18 has been cancelled due to their landlord Island Timberlands closing all their recreational lands due to the extreme fire hazard. The track is closed until further notice, so anyone caught riding the track will be disqualified from racing on Oct 2nd. Please spread the word of this cancellation and closure.

The Alberni Exec is having a meeting this week to discuss whether they will be rescheduling using the floater date Oct 22-23 or just cancelling the race all together.  Alberni MX will communicate their decision shortly.

Alberni MX sincerely apologizes for this late date cancellation but it is beyond their control.

VIMX Press Release

In January 2010 the Canadian Motosport Racing Corporation (CMRC) officially recognized Vancouver Island as an independent region in BC, and the Vancouver Island Motocross Association (VIMX) as the official governing body of this region.  VIMX was made up of representatives from all 5 clubs/tracks on the Island.  VIMX in turn signed an exclusive mutual agreement with CMRC stating in part that all racing activity will be CMRC sanctioned and insured.
With the departure of Westshore MX from VIMX, the boundaries for some of the VIMX clubs have changed.  The Port Alberni region now includes Nanoose and the Nanaimo region now includes Victoria and surrounding South Island areas.  As per Island Series rules, riders must be members of their region’s club in order for Island Series points to count towards awards at the year-end banquet, and to qualify for associate memberships at other VIMX associated clubs. Region boundaries for the VIMX clubs are now as follows:

Port McNeil: Sayward and North
Campbell River: Sayward to Inland Hwy Port Alberni exit
Port Alberni: Port Alberni to Inland Hwy Port Alberni exit to Nanoose
Nanaimo: South of Nanoose to Victoria (and surrounding South Island areas)

About VIMX:

VIMX Mission: "To coordinate and promote recreational and competitive off road motorsports on Vancouver Island. To represent all CMRC sanctioned motocross clubs on Vancouver Island and bring unity to all VIMX series and events.”

In 2009 the Vancouver Island Motocross Association (VIMX) was initially formed to provide guidance to and collaboration between the Island clubs, including race formats, standard practices and scheduling.  In early 2010 VIMX was formally structured, registered as a BC non-profit society and recognized under the CMRC as the BC regional governing body for Vancouver Island – along with the BC Motocross Association (BCMA) on the mainland.  VIMX now promotes, organizes and manages CMRC sanctioned motocross racing on the Island.

The VIMX board consists of the President and from each club represented by voting Director and club representative.  The current Island clubs include: Nanaimo Motocross Association, Alberni Motocross Association, Campbell River Motocross Association and TriPort Motorbike and ATV Club.

The Nationals Back on Vancouver Island!

The Vancouver Island Motocross Association (VIMX) and the Nanaimo Motocross Association are very excited to announce that the CMRC Monster Energy MX Nationals are back at the Wastelands again starting in 2011!  VIMX in cooperation with the NMA have an agreement with Stallybrass Promotions Inc. to host a round of the nationals for the next 3 years.  Under the VIMX all the participating clubs on the Island will work closely with the NMA over the next few months as a team to organize, promote and prepare the Wastelands to host the event on June 11/12 weekend.  As usual the weekend will include an amateur event and national qualifiers on the Saturday followed by the national event on the Sunday.

The following is the official CMRC Press Release on the 2011 Monster Energy MX Nationals...

2011 Monster Energy MX Nationals Series Schedule Announced

The Wastelands in Nanaimo, British Columbia returns to CMRC’s nine round, coast to coast national motocross series. The Vancouver Island MX Association, which includes clubs from Victoria, Nanaimo, Pt. Alberni, Campbell River and Port McNeill, will spearhead the organization and logistics surrounding the national to ensure the event and track will meet national calibre standards. “We are very pleased to return to the Island after a two year layoff, as The Wastelands were a part of the series for thirteen years. Having the VIMX behind the event makes me very confident the event will be executed in the most professional manner as it was in the late ‘90s”, stated CMRC President Mark Stallybrass. “We are currently trying to make arrangements to make the transportation from the Mainland to the Island much more affordable, which will make the event much more attractive to participants, teams and enthusiasts”.

A change has been made to the series schedule; there will be a weekend off between Sand Del Lee and the final round in Walton. The final round of the Monster Energy MX Nationals in Walton, Ontario has traditionally been held on the third Sunday of August, and to keep consistent with the dates of the remaining eastern Canadian rounds of the series, no choice was left but to make this adjustment with the schedule.
